implementation of solutions to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated
(IUU) fishing, considering it a top task. As a result, this work had many
positive changes. Fishermen were aware of complying with legal regulations
when fishery exploiting and more responsible in implementing solutions to
remove the "yellow card" of the European Commission (EC). Policies to
encourage and support exploitation, aquaculture and fishing services in remote
areas were continued to implement, making fishermen excited and assured to
invest in production. The prevention of aquatic diseases continued to be
strengthened; Disease detection was taken care of and handled promptly when
shrimp diseases occurred, causing little damage to farming households; Binh
Dinh province was implementing the shrimp farming model from the Coastal
Resources for Sustainable Development (CRSD) project to raise shrimp in the
model of VietGap, food safety, disease safety, and environmental safety so that
raising white-legged shrimp in farming areas had high productivity.
In 2023, the whole province currently had 3,827 hectares of water surface
for aquaculture, an increase of 0.9% (+35 hectares) over the same period
(shrimp farming area was 1,605 hectares, down 1.1%; fish cultivation area was
2,129 hectares, up 0.9%).
Total fishery production in 2023 reached 287,474 tons, a year-on-year
increase of 3.4% (+9,425 tons). Of which: Aquaculture production reached
13,509 tons, up 2.1% (+276 tons); production of capturing fishery reached
273,965 tons, up 3.5% (+9,149 tons) over the same period last year.
In 2023, the whole province currently had 4,862 mechanized ships
operating at sea, a decrease of 3% (-152 units) over the same period, the main
reason was due to shrinking fishing grounds, many ships were in a loss
condition and had to stay ashore for months so the ship owners were forced to
sell it outside the locality. On the other hand, some ships having incidents at
sea, such as sinking, engine failure, accidents, etc, were not in operation.
However, the total capacity of boats reached 1,860,369 CV, an increase of
0.5% (+9,324 CV), thanks to the conversion to increase capacity and build new
large capacity boats that fishermen were focusing on investing in maintaining a
stable number of fishing vessels for exploiting remote waters, upgrading
engines, hulls and fishing gear, and equipment on board, and at the same time
strictly following the instructions of authority agencies serving the purpose of
fishing and exploiting the right area and high and stable productivity,
contributing to increasing fishery production.
